Celtic Design :

Celtic cultures are becoming more differentiated in modern scholarship as more archeological evidence is uncovered and new methodologies applied to the material culture of these peoples. Within the continuum of artistic objects made throughout a long chronological period, a great variety of motifs were added, or dropped, from the Celtic visual vocabulary.

There are some celtic designs to be found in traditional Celtic art which are most famous :

  • Celtic knot :

    The interlaced knotwork patterns with their unbroken lines, symbolize the process of man's eternal spiritual growth, the intertwining of the eternal thread of life.

  • Celtic cross :

    As a craftsman and jewelry designer in the Celtic tradition, the history of this powerful symbol is there are many variations of interpretations and legends about the original meaning that are commonly repeated even today. The Presbyterian and Catholic are often startled to learn that it is often used as an emblem of ones Irish, Scottish identity.

  • Celtic Spiral :

    The spiral is the natural form of growth, and in every culture past and present has become a symbol of eternal life. The whorls represent the continuous creation and dissolution of the world; the passages between the spirals symbolize the divisions between life, death and rebirth.

  • Celtic animal clipart:

    Animals and birds were sacred to the Celts. Zoomorphic ornaments show that nothing is as it first appears; plants turn into tails, and, interweaving, develop a head, legs or feet. In the famous illuminated Gospel, the Book of Kells, this influence is emphasized by repeatedly depicting the four evangelists through their symbols: the man for Matthew, the lion for Mark, the calf for Luke and the eagle for John.

  • Celtic design collection and key patterns :

    The key patterns like the celtic spirals in straight lines, celtic borders and lines, celtic buttons, celtic backgroungs are connected and used repetadly to have a complex designs and symbols.

Each Celtic culture deserves its own careful examination to uncover the richness of the celtic world. These celtic design analyses were created to introduce some of the visual concepts that engaged the Celtic artists. A few unifying themes characterize much, though not all, of Celtic arts.
